Where Friendship Meets Flavour
Bringing the Spirit of Portugal to Solihull
About Porto Douro
Porto Douro was born from a simple idea: that good food, shared with good people, can feel like home, no matter where you are in the world.

After decades working in restaurants and hospitality, Fernando and Kelly knew it was time to create something of their own. They’d worked their way up in big-name venues, but their hearts were set on something more personal.

As close friends and true all-rounders (both equally comfortable in the kitchen and front of house) they teamed up to build a restaurant where their cultures, creativity and values could shine.

In 2019, Porto Douro opened its doors. It’s since become a local favourite and a home-from-home for those craving more than just a great meal. Looking for a local independent restaurant in Solihull with heart, heritage, and truly authentic Portuguese food? You’re in the right place.

Our Roots

Fernando was born in Porto and has lived in the UK for over 30 years.

His cooking is shaped by childhood memories – big pots bubbling away in his grandma’s kitchen, unannounced visits to aunts and uncles where food was always waiting, and the simple joy of gathering round the table at night with the people you love.

Kelly moved from South Africa around 20 years ago.
She brings a deep appreciation for hospitality, a talent for making people feel instantly welcome, and a real flair for cocktails and events. Together, they’ve created a restaurant that doesn’t just serve Portuguese food, but one that shares Portuguese culture.
